It’s a shame your mama has such a confused view on nutrition! I would be happy to offer some info for you to share with her.
I would TOTALLY recommend buying 80:10:10 by Dr Douglas Graham, it is a wonderful and enlightening book on the truth of nutrition and what allows our bodies to thrive, specifically explaining how carbs are what our cells favor.
• our bodies favored energy source is carbohydrates, primarily from glucose/fructose from fruit and vegetables
• glucose is the only fuel used by brain cells. Because neurons cannot store glucose, they depend on the bloodstream to deliver a constant supply of this precious fuel source.
• This blood sugar is obtained from carbohydrates: the starches and sugars you eat in the form of grains and legumes, fruits and vegetables.
Here is a little explanation which I find helpful when sharing this knowledge : imagine your cells as a pipe / now, when we eat an intake high in carbs (and low in fat) that energy moves quickly through our cells (pipes) providing sustained and increased energy, clear thoughts and focus || when we are consuming a higher intake of fat, our cells (pipes) become clogged / our favored energy source (carbs) are now moving slowly through the clogged pipes, this causes lethargy and storage of energy (fat)
It’s quite obvious when you think about it..
Carbs = Energy
Fat = Fat
